 FDMS DRYER UPGRADE

The New Improved TEOM FDMS Dryer (CB Series)

The original ‘B series’ dryer supplied with the FDMS was based on a standard tubular dryer from Permapure Corporation TM and was replaced by a ‘flat plate’ ‘C series’ dryer by Rupprecht & Patashnick Company (now Thermo Fisher Scientific Corp). The ‘C series’ dryers have been reported as being more variable in their performance than the ‘B series’ and some users have reported differences in the resultant mass concentrations when comparing the two types. With this in mind Air Monitors in association with Permapure Corporation set out to design a new dryer which would perform as reliably as the earlier ‘B series’. It also provides more efficient drying, equivalent results to the gravimetric reference methods and provides improved batch to batch variability improving instrument to instrument precision, which is essential for network monitoring operations. In addition the new dryer is easier to maintain and can be exchanged simply in the field at a lower replacement cost than the B or C series. The CB Series dryer is exclusive to Air Monitors and can be purchased through your local TEOM-FDMS or Europa Environmental distributor.

     CB Dryer

What’s different about the CB Dryer?

The CB Dryer has been designed from the beginning with particulate matter in mind. The dryer is made from a stainless steel shell with a multi-core tubular drying bundle which is designed to minimise loss of particulate matter during the drying process. The system has been designed to perform such that the FDMS should provide data equivalent to the reference gravimetric methods currently used in the USA and Europe. The dryer can also be maintained and replaced simply in the field contrary to the C series dryer which requires the user to exchange it with the manufacturer. The fittings and seals have been simplified and the dryer tubes arranged to maximise drying efficiency and reduce possible particulate losses. and The CB series dryer provides similar drying efficiency to the C series dryer but has demonstrated superior batch to batch consistency leading to improved instrument to instrument precision in mass measurements. Backed by Permapure quality and experience and Air Monitors application and field expertise the dryer provides a higher degree of accuracy and precision for TEOM—FDMS measurements.

Is the CB dryer compatible with all FDMS Systems?

The CB series dryer can be fitted to all new and existing B series and C series FDMS units however an additional set of adapters is required to fit the dryer to the B series FDMS. A small modification is required to the top of the FDMS box which can be done by the user on site, with the appropriate tools. The existing temperature and humidity sensors from the B or C type dryers can be used without modification on the CB series. A new set of purge air tube fittings is supplied with each CB Dryer Kit as is a full set of illustrated instructions.
